The biggest internet worry for 35% of girls aged 11-21 is comparingthemselves with others.
The quest to create the image of a “perfect” life on social media is affecting the wellbeing of one in three girls, according to a survey. 35% of girls aged 11-21 said their biggest worry online was comparing themselves and their lives with others. 12% of girls said their parents were concerned about the pressure of making such comparisons online. That’s why parents failed to recognise this as a problem In the past year twice the usual number of children and young teenagers had come to her saying they felt inadequate after comparing themselves to others online “They are … thinking they are not healthy enough, or asking why they are not getting strong enough or not putting on weight,”. “They look on Instagram and follow fitness accounts and want to look like the people who post pictures. At a young age, girls are being taught to aspire to reach unattainable beauty standards which are highly unrealistic. Women are drastically
impacted to the point of developing body dysmorphia or eating disorders.
Below are a few techniques you can use in order to boost your self confidence:
1. Block out all the negative thoughts. If you begin to have negative thoughts in general, you will eventually begin to think negatively about yourself. Try to stay positive by focusing your energy on things that matter. Try to mediate or do yoga. Do something that helps you and lifts your spirit.
2. Surround yourself with accepting and loving people. The most hurtful words come from the people closest to us. If someone is constantly putting you down then do not keep them around! You need people that want to uplift you, not put you down.
3. Listen to inspiring individuals. Social media is a great place to build social connections but it can also be damaging to your self esteem. You have to learne how to love the skin that I was in. Nobody can make you love yourself or the body that you have. Even if you do not look like the women depicted in the media, you still beautiful and nobody can tell you otherwise. Beauty is not defined by any number on a scale or loose skin. Beauty is defined by how you
carry yourself.
‘’The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.’’
