On Friday, a fire ripped through a Texas church, flattening the structure and burning nearly everything inside – but for a cross that stood among the charred ruins.
According to Wise County Emergency Services Department No. 2, a fire broke out at the Balsora Baptist Church in Bridgeport and quickly destroyed the structure.
As the flames were extinguished and the smoke cleared, firemen noticed the remaining sign of hope.
The agency described the fire as “a tragic loss for our community, but a sight to witness.” “The cross was saved from the fire, but the structure was destroyed. A reminder that the structure was just that: a structure. The crowd is the Church, and He will be present wherever two or more people congregate.”
The number of americans who believe in god has reached an all-time low: poll
Extreme temperatures taxed the fire department’s resources, causing officials to seek assistance from at least 11 other local and state agencies, according to the department.
According to fire officials, as firemen battled the fire, the roof of the church began to collapse while crews were still inside. Wise County EMS was on the scene and treated many firefighters.
The fire’s source remained yet unknown.
The church held a prayer gathering on Sunday, despite the sad loss, according to KSAT-TV.
